This 268-page tome offers, for the first time, a complete reprinting of all twenty-one issues of the 1966 Marvel fanzine. Published from June 1966 to September 1968, THE YANCY STREET GAZETTE published letters, interviews, and articles with Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, Vince Colletta, Werner Roth, Dave Cockrum, Marvel secretary Flo Steinberg, Tony Isabella, Bob Gale, and Mark Evanier. The Yancy Street Gang, as they called themselves, also managed to organize their club to involve over 300 members, making them the largest Marvel fan club outside of Marvel's own official Merry Marvel Marching Society and Marvelmania International fan clubs. The enthusiasm among this first generation of Marvel Silver Age fans is contagious and overflows from the pages of this popular fanzine. Yet, as popular as the fanzine was in its day, copies of it rarely turn up for sale at all. The first issues had print runs of fewer than ten copies that were typed on carbon paper and hand-lettered. Some of the issues are so rare that they have never appeared for sale in the entire history of eBay. Thankfully, a complete set of the fanzines was provided for this book by original YANCY STREET GAZETTE editor John Hoecker. Courtesy of his archives, legions of Marvel fans all over the world can now read the words of this very first generation of Marvelites as they reacted to the Marvel comics of the 1960s as the comics first appeared on the newsstands. The Yancy Street Gang interviewed Stan Lee, Steve Ditko, Werner Roth, and Vince Colletta. The fanzine features columns and letters by Roy Thomas, Tony Isabella, Mark Evanier, and Bob Gale, who went on to write and produce the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy with Robet Zemeckis. Issue #17 features the first published art by Dave Cockrum, co-creator of the New X-Men. Dave also provides a detailed account of his early life as a comic collector. Each page of each issue has been meticulously restored by editor J. Ballmann. So if you are a true fan of Silver Age Marvel comics, this book is for you. 'Nuff said! Read more
